On February 10, 2023, Jeff Charles, the longstanding “Voice of the Pirates” at East Carolina University, passed away tragically. Before coming to ECU, Charles had previously attended Virginia Tech, Illinois, and Furman. His passing was rendered much more heartbreaking by the fact that he was visiting New Orleans with the men’s basketball team at the time. ECU Sources claim that he died as a result of health issues, albeit this is not yet proven. This heartbreaking news has forced the cancellation of Saturday’s game at Tulane in honour of Jeff Charles’ love and devotion to ECU athletics.
