The Forerunner 255 and Forerunner 955 series smartwatches are currently receiving a new beta update with version number 14.12, according to announcements on Garmin’s Forum. With the new software, the same changes are being made to both smartwatch series. According to Garmin, this update is a Release Candidate, meaning that if no serious bugs are discovered, this exact software version will be made available to the general public.
As all versions of 14.12 are identical, installing version 14.12 as a Release Candidate or waiting for it to be a Live public update will have no impact on its functionality.
Only those who have signed up for the company’s public beta programme will get the beta update. Through GCM, members’ watches will automatically receive the update. However, keep in mind that GCM only checks for new updates once every 24 hours, so it could take a while for the update to finish transferring and become available for installation.
