After the company launched its M2 chip with the MacBook Air (2022) in June of last year, the new chip will arrive on a timeline that is generally anticipated. Therefore, the launch is likely to follow the consistent schedule of new product and chip launches that Apple has followed up to this point.
What new Macs could benefit from the Apple M3 SoC
The Apple M3 SoC, based on TSMC’s 3nm fabrication process, is predicted to offer 15% better performance while becoming 30% more power efficient, per Gurman’s report. This might enable the MacBook Air lineup to deliver better overall performance while enhancing battery life. The Apple M3 SoC could improve general computing task performance on the iMac.
As the laptop received a new design with a notch at the top-center of its display last year, the report implies that the MacBook Air refresh is unlikely to offer any design upgrades. Given that it was updated in 2021, the iMac may receive a new look. However, there are currently no clear details available on the subject.

According to the report, Apple is also developing a new MacBook Air with a screen that could measure 15.5 inches. The latter, however, is anticipated to debut with an M2 SoC in Spring 2023, before the Apple M3 SoC is revealed later this year. Apple updated its 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro lineup last week with new M2 Pro and M2 Max processors while keeping the same design aesthetic on each model. As part of the update, the Mac Mini also received the new M2 Pro processor.
