Albert Gibbs II, one of the city of Fort Lauderdale, Florida’s most prominent leaders, passed away. For many young black males in his community, Albert Gibbs, the creator of the Albert Gibbs Leadership Academy, served as an inspiration and a source of hope.

Who was Albert Gibbs?
Fort Lauderdale, Florida native Albert Gibbs II graduated from Deerfield Beach High School in 2001. He continued his education at the University of South Florida, where he developed his love for community development and his leadership abilities.
Gibbs established the Albert Gibbs Leadership Academy in January 2015. He devoted more than nine years of his time and money to giving young black men in his neighborhood access to career possibilities, academic support, and a network of mentors.
